As many have
learned, Windows is not a Real-time operating system (RTOS) and sending
perfect CW can be problematic. With it's simple, 1-byte, easy to implement
command structure the Hamation Serial Keyer is the perfect solution.
This keyer uses simple hardware
handshaking so there is no need to constantly check the COM port for Ctrl-Q
and Ctrl-S. Instead, simply test the state of the CTS line before sending CW
characters. Commands bytes may be sent at anytime regardless of the state of
CTS.
The keyer has a programmable PTT
delay which inserts a short delay after asserting PTT and before sending CW
characters, thus preventing hot switching of the amplifier relays.
