W9GE - High Performance OptiBeam and a Tic Ring Station

DF2BO de W9GE
Hi Tom:

Dunka for the kind words. I have installed many commercial Yagi antennas in my almost 40 years as a ham. None have been as well built as the OB 16-3. If any can survive the storm now approaching, it will be the one on top of my tower. I fully understand the limitations, and have no false expectations regarding your product surviving a hurricane. Besides, it is a monster! The feedpoint is ingenious and very well executed.

I received many very favorable and unsolicited signal report comments during the recent WAE SSB contest. It was my first chance to "test" the OB 16-3, and I am very happy with it. One G told me it was very favorably received in G land, but that mine was the first OB 16-3 he had heard from the states. My being only 25KM from the Atlantic ocean does help some as well. Beam is up 24 M on the tower by the way, well in the clear of any possible interaction products.

Now to get the OB40-2 Moxon in the sky and try it as well. I expect great things from it as well. It will be mounted at 25 M on its own tower. Installation has been delayed for unexpected reasons, none involving your product.

Thank you for a very fine product, and I will be reviewing the OB 16-3 on E-Ham after some more testing. I will also give an honest review of the Moxon after some testing of it. I am already in planning stages of making the OB 16-3 part of a two vertical stack yagi, I like it that much. Thank you as well for expediting the Moxon to me via BWI airport. That was unexpected and very gracious of you to do.

I will send you an e-mail tomorrow with status after the big blow.

An Addendum, the beam did survive Hurricane Isabelle and he added the 40M OB40-2M as well

as can be seen from the pictures!
