That's it - a 43' vertical and
the wire you see going across in front of the vertical is one leg of one of our
AS-OCF-2K
Off-Center
Fed dipoles. The dipole center insulator is on the back side of my chimney
(off to the left in this photo) and only up about 15'. It works well for the
Sunday morning QCWA net on 75m. The dipole and the vertical are about 30'
from each other but the photo compresses the apparent distance.
The box at the bottom of the 43' vertical is an
AD5X 160 and 80m matching network. The photo below is the inside of the one I
built. Click on the photo for a really big version of it. This thing really
makes the 43' vertical play on all bands. Take a look at the ZL8X online log
lookup for W5OV and you see that I worked them on all bands with this
antenna - 160 through 10m. Not bad for less than one square foot of acreage.
I do have 8 radials on it, about 45' long that wind around the property -
some of them are straight, but the antenna base is only about 10 from the
fence. The radials on that side go to the fence and then turn either left or
right and parallel the fence line.
Yes, I hear noise from those
power lines in the background.
